HEAD COACH RESUME:
Head Coach Clay Gagen-Sherman is entering his seventh season at Bryant & Stratton College, where he has made a significant impact as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and now also serves as the Assistant Athletic Director, a title he earned in January 2025 to help develop all facets of the athletic program.
Prior to taking over the men’s program, Coach Gagen-Sherman spent three successful seasons leading the Women’s Basketball team, where he established a strong foundation and guided them to early success. In 2020, he launched the inaugural women’s basketball season, guiding the team to an at-large bid to the USCAA National Championship—a remarkable achievement for a first-year program, though the tournament was ultimately cut short due to the pandemic.
Before joining Bryant & Stratton, Coach Gagen-Sherman honed his coaching skills as the head coach at Chazy Central School for the varsity boys’ basketball team and as an assistant coach at Clinton Community College. His basketball journey began as a manager within the SUNY Plattsburgh men’s basketball program, where he gained valuable experience in player development and team operations.
Coach Gagen-Sherman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science (2016) and a Master’s degree in Fitness & Wellness Leadership (2022), both from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Under his leadership, the Bryant & Stratton Men’s Basketball program has flourished. Over the past four seasons, the team has made four consecutive national tournament appearances and compiled an impressive overall record. The 2023–2024 season marked a milestone as the Bobcats recorded a program-best 19-8 record, secured their first-ever postseason victory, and entered the national tournament as the 5th seed—the highest in program history at the time.
Building on that success, Coach Gagen-Sherman led the team to unprecedented heights in the 2024–2025 season, earning the #1 overall ranking and top seed entering the national tournament. This accomplishment cemented Bryant & Stratton’s place among the nation’s best small college basketball programs and reflected the steady growth and consistency that have defined his tenure.
Now entering his seventh season with the college—including three with the men’s team and three with the women’s program—Coach Gagen-Sherman continues to be a driving force behind Bryant & Stratton’s athletic success. His commitment to excellence, player development, and the overall advancement of the athletic department has established him as a respected leader both on and off the court.
